Suzuki X7

This was the first X7 / GT250 I owned.

Registration was SOO 30W, first registered in October 1980.

I got the bike in May 1981 from a friend who purchased it new in 1980 and had just got a new Suzuki GS550. Very low mileage and basically like new condition.

In 1980 I'd been a bit of a naughty boy on my Gt380, not only breaking a few bones in an accident but also picking up a few more SP30s to go with the one I'd got on my RD200 . Luckily I didn't get a ban, but insurance on anything over 250cc was out of my price range, hence getting the X7.

Much lighter and smaller than the GT380 it was fun to ride and almost as quick. But I still liked the 380 because it felt bigger and worked better with luggage and camping stuff.

I had this as my main ride until the insurance premiums became a little better and traded it in at Bikewise in Leigh-oh-sea for my first Kawasaki Z650 (BMG 646T) in November 1981.

Below shows I didn't always have a nice garage to work in!

According to 2026 DVLA data the bike is still recorded. The last change of keeper was 1991, there is no data for MOTs and not tax since 1989. I'm guessing this one is in a landfill.
