Suzuki GSXR750 Slabby

1987

Got this GSXR750 'Slabby' new from South Essex Motors when they were still based in the old Lesleys Motorcycle shop in Grays back in August 1987. Paid £3750 which was much lower than the dealer wanted but having a bundle of crisp £50 notes, when you were still allowed to pay in cash, soon persuaded them.

I'd sold my RG500 and had tried an RD350LC, which was a mistake after been using the 500, so also sold that. Liked the way Suzuki were building their bikes so went for the GSXR.

Nice bike and quick enough, but still not a patch on the brutality of the RG500 and sheer grin factor of riding that.

Bike was left pretty standard with the exception of changing the exhaust to a Micron unit which sounded much better.

Bike behaved well over the time I had it with no major issues I can recall.

Rode the bike as my primary ride until May 1989 when I part exchanged it in for a Yamaha FZR1000 Genesis.

According to DVLA in 2026 the bike is still registered.

However the last V5C was issues in 2001, there is no MOT data yet oddly the bike is on SORN, so maybe this one is still alive.
